The position of a Driller is an operational role within VM Drilling. A Driller has an integral role to ensure that drill rigs, machinery, equipment and other resources are effectively operated to optimise the profitability of the company's site operations. A Driller is expected to ensure the well being of the client is maintained.

General Duties of a Driller:
*Handling different types of RC Drill Rigs in differing terrains
*Carrying our reverse circulation in grade control and exploration drilling
*Reporting Safety, Health and Environmental hazards and deficiencies to his/her Supervisor
*Supervising drill crew working on rigs
*Carrying out checks on drilling equipment
*Recording drilling rates
*Assisting with the repair and maintenance of rigs and drilling equipment
*Supervising the maintenance of bits
*Assisting the maintenance of bits
*Maximising useful life of tools and equipment through proper use, care and maintenance
*Ensuring that all personnel around the rig are equipped with the correct PPE to effectively and safety carry out their given tasks
*Giving clear and accurate instructions on how to effectively and safely perform any given task
*Ensuring that all areas under his/her control meet the required standards as set out in VM Drillings Safety and Environmental Policy
*Applying VM Drillings safe practices as set out in the training matix when completing tasks with their colleagues, the public and the environment
*Assisting in appraising the performance of drill crew
*Recommending disciplinary action for the immediate subordinates, (in consultation with a Supervisor), and in accordance with laid down rules and regulations
*Liaising with clients needs

VM Drilling encourage all employees to further their careers. This is done by enrolling all employees in various certificates which when completed in full employees can become Qualified Drillers.
Drillers are required to have the following before being considered for employment:

  • Approx 5 years experience or Certificate IV in Drilling
  • MUST have a current HR license or Class 4 NZ license
  • Current Mine Health Surveillance
  • Current MARCSTA
  • Current Police Clearance
  • Pre employment medical and drug and alcohol screen
  • Senior First Aid certificate
